Advantages of stepper motors
① The angular displacement (or linear displacement) of a stepper motor is proportional to the number of electrical pulses, so the stepper motor (or linear velocity) is also proportional to the pulse frequency. Within the load capacity range of the stepper motor, its step angle and rotation are affected by voltage fluctuations and load changes, and are not affected by environmental conditions such as temperature, air pressure, impact, and operation. Therefore, stepper motors are suitable as actuators in open-loop systems.
② Stepper motors have good control performance. By changing the pulse frequency, the speed (or linear velocity) can be adjusted over a large range, and can quickly start, brake, and reverse. If the same pulse motor is used, they can operate synchronously.

③ The stepper motor has a fixed number of steps per revolution, and operates without losing steps. Its step distance error will not accumulate, meaning that although there is an error in each step, the accumulated error is zero after one revolution. These characteristics enable it to function as a servo component in fully controlled open-loop systems, greatly simplifying the entire system while ensuring reliable operation. After adopting a position detection device, it can also be used in closed-loop systems.
④ Some types of stepper motors still have positioning torque when the power supply is stopped, and some types of stepper motors have self-locking ability with certain phase windings remaining energized without the need for mechanical braking devices.
⑤ The range of step angle variation of stepper motors is relatively large, and in the case of small step angles, it is often possible to operate without going through the reducer surface
